In addition, T-Mobile announced that it's moving forward with plans to implement LTE. The mobile carrier has partnered with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens to develop an LTE network in 2013. While the show down here at CTIA doesn't officially open until tomorrow, the folks at MasterCard held an event this evening to let us in on some of their big news that they have coming. It has become very obvious that people want to be able to quickly and easily pay for things, they want a one click payment and a quick in store experience and that is exactly what they have landed here. PayPass from MasterCard brings quick and easy mobile payments both in the form of using NFC while out and about, as well as a simple one click payment while shopping online.
While it won't be in our hands just yet, the folks at MasterCard are aiming to have this out there for the public in Q3 of 2012, which isn't all that far off. Beyond the development that they have done, they are also opening up the API for this, allowing third party developers to integrate these great new features into their applications as well. From a simple tap and go payment in a cab or at the store, to a one click order of a plane ticket or anything else, this is definitely something many will enjoy. Don't worry, if you don't have a MasterCard you won't be left out of all the features, they are working with other card companies and manufacturers to ensure that they people are taking full advantage of the powerful technology that they are bringing to the table. Full release after the break.

We’re here in New Orleans on the eve of CTIA, and Verizon has the next star in their lineup on-hand. The Droid Incredible 4G LTE made its rounds tonight, and from our short but sweet time with the device, we really like what we see. The next-gen Incredible is what would happen if the Droid line mated with the One line: quality HTC hardware with Verizon’s signature touch.
It would be simple to compare the new Incredible to the One S, but despite the similarities, the two are quite different and independently unique in their own right. Sure, they share the same display technology, the same processor, and the same user experience, but aesthetically, the two phones are quite different. Where the One S draws its ooohs and aaahs from its svelte physique, the Droid Incredible 4G LTE makes no apologies about its heftier footprint. If you’re familiar with the first two Incredibles, you’re going to feel right at home here. While they don’t pretend to be the most beautiful devices on the market, they certainly have a charm that’s hard to deny. The textured back, the chromed bezel, and even the 4-inch qHD display isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but it adds up to a nice experience.
Internally, it’s pretty clear that Verizon has gotten its hands on HTC’s latest and greatest technology. We’ve got a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, along with a full GB of RAM and 8 gigs of internal storage. The Droid Incredible 4G LTE’s got Ice Cream Sandwich onboard, which translates to the same experience we fell in love with on the One line. Sense 4.0 is like butter on top of Google’s latest OS. It’s fluid, it’s fast, and it looks absolutely stunning. I’ll go on record tonight and say that Sense has made some honest to goodness improvements to Android 4.0.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the main difference between the Incredible and HTC’s flagship devices: the camera. The Incredible lacks HTC’s ImageSense technology, though Verizon says that this camera is respectable in its own right. Regardless, we think its kind of a drag that Big Red customers are going to miss out on one of the best smartphone camera experiences on the market today.
We’ll get more down and dirty with the new Incredible in the coming days and weeks. You can grab yours “in the coming weeks” but until then, sit tight and take a look below at what we got to see tonight.

While not a game per se, I found Mitoza intriguing enough to spend quite some time with it. You start off with a seed, and are then presented with two choices: you can either click a flower pot, or click a cute little birdie.
If you click the flower pot, a flower pot appears and the seed is planted inside. You’re then presented with two further choices — a water can or a bottle of fertilizer. Each choice you make causes your creation to morph, and presents you with two other choices.
There’s no winning or losing, really. Each “game” usually lasts around four or five choices, at which point the plant/animal dies in some creative (but not too gruesome) way. At this point you instantly start over with a new seed.
The graphics are captivating; the whole thing has a cinematic feel to it, with a bit of artificial camera shake added for style.
All in all, it’s a fun, peaceful way to spend a few minutes, and it might even make you think a little bit while you’re at it.

Google Voice Search has just introduced localizations for Latin America, Indonesia and Malaysia, enabling native language search for hundreds of millions of users.
Google’s official blog post offers some interesting insights into the process of collecting and analyzing the speech data needed to expand support. Thousands of hours were spent gathering voice samples and choosing key regional accents to analyze, and International Program Manager Linne Ha is clearly very appreciative of the Google users who helped the company complete the expansion. Without an enthusiastic base of users to lend a hand, Google Voice Search’s polyglot powers would have been nearly impossible to deliver.

Select Microsoft Connect partners — major players like HP — have been given their first taste of Windows 8. According to various sources, the build string currently sits at 7971.0.110324-1900, which is the third milestone build of the successor to Windows 7.
So far, there haven’t been many details revealed about Windows 8. An actual System Restore — which is being referred to as History Vault — has been reported, and the feature will allow users and administrators to completely roll back a system to a previous state. A factory reset option is also said to be included.
We’ve also seen Windows Live integration taking shape on the desktop. It’s believed that you’ll be able to log in to Windows 8 using your Windows Live credentials, not just a traditional offline Windows username and password.
All that’s left now is for a leaked Windows 8 build to show up on a torrent site. Feel free to tip us if you see that happen.

To celebrate the imminent marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Royal Collection will release an Android an iOS app that chronicles the last seven royal marriages, including Queen Victoria’s marriage to Prince Albert in 1840.
Ironically, the app won’t actually feature anything to do with William and Kate’s marriage — rather, it will focus on the “tradition, splendor and romance” that are intrinsic to British royal marriages. “[The app] will share the stories of past royal weddings and offer a wealth of historical context for the ceremony on April 29.”
Unfortunately, the app, which has been lumbered with the fantastically creative name of ‘Royal App,’ won’t be available until April 18 — just 11 days before Kate’s big day. It won’t be free, either: it’ll cost the rather princely sum of £1.79, or three of your Tea Party-loving dollars. The money will go to the Royal Collection, though, which is a good cause!

iSites — a zero-code cloud-based ‘app creator’ — can now generate HTML5 apps that work on iOS devices. With this new feature, dubbed ‘InstantApp’, you can now design a single app in your browser and publish it natively on Android and iOS, and as an HTML5 iPhone app.
We haven’t looked at iSites before, but it shot to fame last year when it launched with native iOS and Android support. Self-publishing Android apps wasn’t a problem because Google does very little moderation of the Market, but iSites ran into trouble with its iOS apps. Thousands of people signed up for the service after it was featured on Mashable and TechCrunch, and you can imagine Apple’s chagrin as thousands of cookie cutter apps flooded its approval queue.
Genwi, the developer behind iSites, realized something had to be done — it had to circumvent the App Store approval process. Genwi, of course, turned to HTML5 Web apps — which can be pinned to the iPhone home screen and which can be shoehorned into almost behaving like native apps.
Read on for our experiences with iSites’ new InstantApp HTML5 iOS app creator.

No, that’s not a QWERTY feature phone you’re looking at — it’s Google’s earliest Android development device, the Sooner. While the HTC-sourced phone itself hasn’t been a secret, the build of Android on this particular specimen, obtained by Steven Troughton-Smith, is something few eyes outside of Mountain View have seen. As Mr. Smith notes, this isn’t the first public build of Android that was detailed in November 2007 (M3), but rather an earlier version from May of that same year. The non-touch UI is almost totally unlike what eventually shipped with the touch-friendly HTC Dream, aside from obviously housing Android’s basic framework and apps including G Talk and the like. We won’t spoil it for you, though, so hit up the source link below to see Smith’s full walkthrough and analysis of the device that once served as the initial development vehicle for Android.

Nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of IT pros believe their organizations will be the target of a cyberattack in the next six months, and three out of five (61 percent) say the attack will come from hactivists. That was one of the findings in cybersecurity firm Bit9′s annual security survey released last week. What’s surprising about the survey is the concern given to hacktivist attacks, said Bit9 CTO Harry Sverdlove.

Microsoft has a long history of supporting bitter rivals — even those that have long publicly disparaged the company, offering funds to Nokia, Corel and, most famously, Apple. Prior to ending development last year, the company offered its Microsoft Reader software for about a decade — first on handheld devices using Windows CE and Windows Mobile and later on desktop Windows. Those two traditions intersected yesterday as Microsoft invested in a new Nook e-book business designed to compete better against Apple and especially Amazon.com.

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget inquiry is coming to us from Van, who needs some help recording his sister’s wedding. If you’re looking to send in an inquiry of your own, drop us a line at ask [at] engadget [dawt] com.
“I’m supposed to be shooting my sister’s wedding in June, with an outdoor ceremony and an indoor reception. I’ve got a Canon T2i (550D, non-Americans) with the kit 18-55mm lens and a 50mm f.18 prime lens. I’m looking for suggestions for an additional lens I could rent for the day, would a 200mm or a telephoto be worth it? Also, if anyone can suggest a good filter for an afternoon shoot, that’d be very welcome. Thanks!”
That’s the second wedding-related query we’ve had this year — there must be something in the water. We’re sure plenty of you want to help Van’s sister’s big day go perfectly, so any photogs, camera buffs and bridezillas with an opinion, please add them below.

It truly is the end of an era. In just under two weeks, Microsoft will follow through with its plan to shutter the Windows Mobile 6.x Marketplace for good. In a cautionary email, Redmond asked that those still using a WM device “install any available updates in advance of the [...] shut-down,” scheduled for May 17th. Not all hope is lost for the antiquated mobile operating system, though, as the announcement reminds technology holdouts that application updates can be acquired directly from developers (good luck with that). Once upon a time, there used to be a DOS game with a caveman and a human powered helicopter. The caveman would shuttle around the screen, madly trying to get customers to where they wanted to go.
Jetbus is not that game, but it’s obviously inspired by it. You’re driving a yellow school bus which has jets. I guess the jet engine takes quite a bit of space inside the bus, because you can only pick up one person at a time.
There are several doors on the screen, each with its own number. As you pick up a person, the status bar at the bottom of the screen shows you which number door you have to take them to.
You must fly your bus carefully, because if it gets bumped around too much, you lose. You earn money on each level, and can visit the garage to buy better jets and damping, power-ups, or even a whole new vehicle.
So while this game isn’t made as well as the original that inspired it, it does provide a few minutes of fun. And now, which one of you guys remembers the original and feels like pointing to it in the comments?

Burrito Bison is a pretty simple game, but if you’re into gummy bears you might find it addictive.
As you may have guessed from the name, you’re a bison (not a burrito, though). In the course of your day-to-day grocery shopping, you’re abducted into a bag of gummy bears, and must now fend for yourself.
At the beginning of each round you launch yourself onto the marching gummy (gummi?) bears, while you’re being watched by a huge crowd of even more gummy bears. Your goal is to keep bouncing on the bears and earn more and more money while you do it. Every time you hit a gummy bear, you lose some momentum. If you hit the floor, you basically lose all of it.
But don’t give up just yet! You have an emergency thrust which you can use to gain some momentum and keep bouncing on those bears. This extra thrust gets refilled as you hit more bears.
There are also special gummy bears that give you extra thrust or extra money. The money comes in handy at the end of each round, when you can shop for cool stuff to make your bison even more effective against those gummy bears.
It’s a fun and colorful game that kept my interest for quite some time, and almost sent me running to the closest store to get some gummy bears!

A University of Dundee scholar has been working on a wonderful tool that aims to evoke the emotional connection between children with autism and their parents. While we’ve seen novelties like the My Keepon in the past, any addition to the cause is always a pleasant one, and the Passive Play’s no exception. The concept comes in the form of an interactive toy cube for the kid (pictured above), which pairs up with an iOS app and allows the parent to see any interaction the little one is having with the device. Passive Play’s creator, Tom Kirkman, says his inspiration comes from “wanting to learn more about autism,” and in case you happen to be in the UK, he’ll be showing off the project at Dundee University later this month. For all those details, be sure to check out the PR after the break.
